Miss NJ:  I am skipping opening weekend, simply ’cause no one really cares until Sunday night when the Sweet Sixteen are set.

Sweet Sixteen

  • East Region: UNC v. Notre Dame; Louisville v. Tennessee
  • Midwest Region: Kansas v. Vanderbilt; Wisconsin v. Georgetown
  • South Region: Memphis v. Pittsburgh; Marquette v. Texas
  • West Region: UCLA v. UConn; Xavier v. West Virginia

 Elite Eight

  • East Region: UNC v. Tennessee
  • Midwest Region: Kansas v. Georgetown
  • South Region: Memphis v. Texas
  • West Region: UCLA v. Xavier

Final Four

  • UNC v. Georgetown; Memphis v. UCLA

Final Two

  • Georgetown v. UCLA

2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball Champion: UCLA

Miss NJ: Teams in orange are ones that I’m picking but if they don’t make it, I won’t be surprised.  Both Notre Dame and Louisville are talented enough to come through to the Sweet Sixteen, but both are also inconsistent enough that they can be beat by anybody.  Marquette getting to the Sweet Sixteen is entirely dependent on how Stanford comes to play.  If Stanford is on and plays to its potential, then they’ll go through to next weekend.

There are some excellent games on tap if this bracket occurs: Memphis v. Pitt will be a hell of a game; Kansas v. Georgetown can really go either way and will be worth watching; and if Georgetown plays UNC in the Final Four that will be a war due to the history of these two programs .

Finally, I’m not really sold on UCLA as the champs, even though I picked them.  They ended up champs based on who I see beating who.  For example, if Georgetown gets beat by Kansas, then I pick UNC to win which makes the final game UNC v. UCLA, in which case UNC is the champ.  Likewise no one really knows how good Memphis is, so they have the potential to go all the way.  I picked UCLA over Memphis on the basis of conference play, but that could mean nothing in the long run.

Good luck to all with money in play.
